Oral History Summer School

Workshop Documentation (Still & Video), Website Assets, Video Testimonials

Oral History Summer School is an immersive training program based in Hudson, New York, and directed by Suzanne Snider. The school offers hands-on, cross-disciplinary instruction in oral history as an ethical interview practice. I have been the primary workshop documentarian since I first encountered OHSS as a student in 2013.

Oral history is a relational practice rooted in deep listening and collaboration between the interviewer and narrator (the interviewee).

Training in, witnessing, and practicing oral history has profoundly informed my approach to documentary work. The ethics central to oral history — reciprocity, foregrounding lesser heard voices, do no harm — are my moral guideposts each time I pick up my camera or sit down to edit.
